The MICHA Tel Aviv Multidisciplinary Center for Children with Hearing Loss, charity registration number 580030872, is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1953 by the late Dr. Ezra Korine - an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist and Director of the Audiology Clinic at Sheba Hospital in Tel Hashomer. Dr. Korine initiated, created and founded MICHA Tel Aviv, together with a group of concerned individuals, who observed the distress of children with hearing impairment and the care available at that time which did not provide a satisfactory solution to their needs. |

MICHA Tel Aviv cares annually for approximately 300 children from varied ethnic, socio-economic and religious backgrounds, from the critical period of infancy through first grade. For over 50 years, MICHA has served as a regional therapeutic center for children coming from the entire central region of Israel -from Hadera in the North to Ashkelon in the South, and from Modi’in in the East to coastal cities in the West.
MICHA Tel Aviv’s mission is to enable children with hearing loss to acquire language, speech and communication skills in order to best facilitate mainstreaming into the public school system. Approximately 85% of MICHA’s graduates are integrated into the public school framework.
Experience has shown that early identification of hearing impairment, together with professional intervention during the critical stages of infancy and early childhood, can significantly increase a deaf child’s chances of integrating with his hearing peers. Aided by up-to-date therapeutic methods and equipment, our certified multidisciplinary staff utilizes a holistic approach, which combines the resources of an educational framework with a clinical setting. The unique aspects of MICHA’s framework, which offers tailored programs in accordance with each child’s specific needs, enable every family to select the communication mode for their child, who benefits from rehabilitation at his or her individual pace of development.
Surveys of MICHA graduates have shown that the majority complete their academic/ vocational studies and are able to establish themselves both socially and professionally in almost every walk of life. In recent years, many of them have served in the Israel Defense Forces and attained impressive achievements.
